China declared on Thursday the successful launch of the crewed spacecraft Shenzhou-12, which is expected to send three astronauts to its space station core module Tianhe for a three-month mission.

The spacecraft, atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gobi Desert.

Distinguished Chinese translator Xu Yuanchong passed away on Thursday. He was 100.
6月17日，中国翻译界泰斗许渊冲逝世，享年100岁。
Xu was also a professor at Peking University known for his countless translation works of ancient Chinese poetry and many English and French literary works.
许渊冲是北京大学教授，以翻译中国古诗和英语、法语文学著作而闻名，著作颇丰。
Xu began his translating career in the 1930s and made enormous contributions to introducing foreign literature to China and ancient Chinese poetry to the world.
许渊冲的翻译生涯始于20世纪30年代，他对外国文学走进来和中国古诗走出去做出了巨大贡献。
Known as "the only master in China who can translate classical Chinese poetry, English and French verse," Xu translated over 120 publications in Chinese, English, and French, and won the Chinese Translation Culture Lifetime Achievement Award in December 2010. He also won the Aurora Borealis Prize for Outstanding Translation of Literature in 2014 at the age of 93, making him the first person in Asia to win the prize.
许渊冲被誉为“诗译英法唯一人”，翻译了120多本中、英、法著作，2010年12月获得“中华传统文化传播终身成就奖”。2014年，他在93岁高龄获得了“北极光杰出文学翻译奖”，成为首位获此殊荣的亚洲翻译家。

A traditional Chinese dance performed underwater in Luoyang, Central China's Henan Province, recently went viral on social media during the Dragon Boat Festival.
在端午节期间，河南省洛阳市的一支水下传统中国舞蹈在社交媒体上走红。
The stunning dance is named The Prayer (or Rhapsody on the Luo River Goddess), and was the opening performance of the gala entitled The Wonderful Tour on Dragon Boat Festival broadcast by Henan Television Station (HNTV) on Saturday.
这支令人惊艳的舞蹈原名《祈》（又名《洛神水赋》），是河南卫视6月12日播出的《端午奇妙游》晚会的开场舞。
The dance featured a character from the famous ancient Chinese painting Ode to Goddess Luo, the daughter of a heavenly sovereign character Fu Xi(or Fu His) in Chinese mythology who drowned and then became a goddess, according to the legend.
该舞蹈演绎了中国古代名画《洛神赋》中天尊伏羲的女儿。相传，她溺死在了洛水中，化身成了洛神。
"The moves were captured underwater at 4.5 meters from the ground," Chen Jia, director of the HNTV gala, said to local media.
《端午奇妙游》总导演陈佳表示，这些舞蹈动作在4.5米的水下拍摄。
In the video on social media, the underwater actress is seen dancing in colorful traditional Chinese costume. The short dance, which lasted less than two minutes, was seen by observers as an ingenious combination of contemporary art and traditional Chinese culture.

The number of people killed in a gas pipeline explosion in central China on Sunday has risen to 25, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Monday.

The death toll from the blast in the city of Shiyan, in Hubei province, had stood at 12 on Sunday evening but another 13 victims without vital signs were found as of 1230 local time (0430 GMT) on Monday, CCTV cited an official from Hubei's emergency management department as saying at a press conference.
